Problems adding users and setting up passwords
« on: December 07, 2005, 10:23:28 PM »
Ok I can't figure this out. Whenever I do something like add a user, add a group, delete a user, etc... I get an error saying it could not complete the operation. However, it appears as it does as the user will appear. Then when I go to reset the password so that I can activate the account, I put the new password in and try to save it and the screen goes blank with no response at all. It does not change the password to activate the account. Help please!!!

As I recall....

  That is a bug in 7BETA5.... not sure how it was resolved, but if you want to click on the Bug Tracker on the left side of the screen you should be able to look it up.

  Let me know if you need a hand with that... but for now I'm going to go with the "...teach a man to fish" method.  8-)

I did a search through the bug tracker and cant seem to locate it at the moment. I searched for bugs with the 7.0 version and no luck thus far.

Want to help this fisherman worm his hook? LOL

You know what... I can't find it either.

I can tell you that if you run yum updates it will resolve itself.  As I recall.  Sorry to not be more specific.

...and if you are indeed running v7beta5 then you should update to 7beta8 (the latest release). Many bugs are fixed with every new release, it is a work in progress remember, that's why it is called a beta release.

I am running version 7beta8 already. I ran the yum updates and it said I have the newest current version. Don't suppose anybody has any other ideas. I am sinking fast here.

It's bug 159 in the new bug tracker and in your scenario I would do these 2 steps from the workaround:

rm /etc/gshadow
grpconv

Before doing it you might want to open /etc/gshadow with an editor to see whether you have any lines looking badly like this:

shared:x::x,w,,,,,,,,,,,,,x,d,w,,x,x,x,w,x,w,,,,,,,,,,,,,x,d,w,,x,x,x,w,x,w,,,,,,,x,x,x,w,x,w,,ww,dmin,,admin,n,,ww,dmin,,ww,dmin,x,d,w,,x,x,x,w,www,admin,public

The weird thing is that I was able to input over 100 email users without any problems. It wasn't until everything went live on the network that it won't allow me to add/delete users/groups correctly and change passwords. Any existing user I can modify and change passwords without any problems.

THANKS!!!

Hey guys, thanks for the help. Bug 159 worked great. Saved my rear.
