POP3 mail retrieval now broken
« on: December 05, 2001, 09:43:54 AM »
Howdy folks. This afternoon my SME V5 box stopped receiving/accepting e-mail. Well I think? sheeessssh!

Mail (SMTP) is sent out fine.

The box has been working without a hiccup for last two months (when first setup)

My users try to retrieve mail (Outlook Express/POP3). and it appears that the attempt to retrieve it is without problem, meaning that there are no errors of any kind. Just no mail since this afternoon. Aargh!!

I thought that maybe my provider (on a cablemodem connection on which I'm running dynamic DNS service) was blocking server ports, but I can telnet both locally (local IP 192.168.0.5) and remotely to domain - sohogurus.net {110 and 25}(shelling into another ISP shell account and attempting it from a "foreign" network to domain also appears to work)

Maillog just shows that no mail has come in...no errors of any kind.

HOWEVER - If I setup remote POP3 retrieval on the second ISP's (Not the cable modem connection provider)  web based e-mail system for my  domain accounts - sohogurus.net for my domains  accounts
1@, 2@, 3@ etc. It appear to be work fine, meaning that the sohogurus.net pop3 e-mail is being retrieved and delivered over my ISP account XX@cybernex.net. This is what fries my brainpan. How can a remote MTA retrieve my users e-mail and I can't retrieve it locally??????!!!!!! Is this possibly about ldap, IMAP POP3?!

Anyone with a clue stick please respond

I am befuddled beyond descrioption at this point

Sorry all - The Cable provider has changed my IP address after having the same IP since I started the service 10 months ago. I had checked that first but apparently my dynamic dns service had not had time to update.

Alls well...

Only slightly stupid in NJ
