I've been searching for a solution for creating a VPN between 2 SME 6.0.1 servers.  I found Swerts OpenVPN but it looks to be for Server/PC.

Anyone successfully doing this?
How are you doing it?
Are you happy with it?

My other option is to just use a couple of Linksys VPN boxes, but I already have the SME boxes up and running, and don't really.

Thanks,
Rick

Hi Rick,
I've been using IPsec server to server for ages and it works great. I got sick of the windows VPN working sometimes and then a couple of hours later it wouldn't work, so now I just quickly setup an IPsec tunnel between myself and any remote sites I need to work with and it's always there and works great. Here is a thread with some info. http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=24038.0

Installed this OPEN-VPN package carefuly following the instructions - startup failed.

2 things to note,

The VPN tunnel to setup is assumed to be 192.168.100.0/24 with the local private network assumed to be at 192.168.1.0/24.   My local network started as 192.168.100.0/24 - so I carefully changed the settings in the setup to reflect a network for the VPN of 192.168.150.0/24 changing the settings accordingly. Also changed the settings reflecting the proper local network IP's.

The second thing that didn't go smoothly was the "certificate/private-key" pairs.  The first run through did not give me the option to sign the certificates.  Re entering the data a second time did require me to sign the "Server" key, but not the "Client" key.

Thoughts?

Rick,
Right now you're have implemented openvpn for roaming users and also you're using IPSEC for PTP?
How's that going and what about server load?

Thanks,
