Backup to tape not complete.
« on: December 20, 2005, 02:11:06 PM »
Hello All,

I'm using V6.0 software (upgraded from 5.6) and a HP Surestore DAT 24 tapestreamer.

The problem:

I have a second (faster) server which I want to set up.
Installed V 6.0 on it and did a tape restore from a freshly made backup from my running server.

Apart from some "minor" permission problems, and changing the drivers for the NIC's (other NIC's in the new server), it seemed to work fine.

But much to my surprise, all my webmail and it's settings were not present on the new server.

Afterwards, I made a "backup to desktop" from my running server, and loaded this in a freshly installed Mitel V 6.0.

Also now, the webmail files were not included.

I,m using the normal backup package from the Mitel server.

Reading through the forum, I cannot find anything related to my problem.

Ideas anybody?

Regards,

Leo.

There should be no permission problems. Please report details of your problems via the bug tracker.

Webmail should work correctly after a restore from backup. Again, please make a detailed bug report via the Bug tracker.

Note that your Subject also appears to be inaccurate. You haven't shown any evidence that backup to tape is incomplete - only that you have had problems after restore.

There are/will be permission issues in that the users will not own their home directories on a restore from tape.  There is a bug open on this it is bug 259.  A workaround has been posted, but no consensus as to how to move forward with this bug has been decided.

There was also an initial issue with restoring a 5.6 backup to a 6.x server in that the horde password wouldn't migrate over correctly and had to be reset back to horde.  That has since been fixed, but if the system didn't contain any updates, then this could be an issue as well.

Hello "mrjhb3",

Thanks for the hint.

I remember some "screen warnings" from the past after an update, and they had to do with horde and passwords.

Can you give me a hint about this fix, or should I run through te entire forum?

By the way.
After the upgrade, and the above warnings, the server has been running fine for almost two years.

I'm very reluctant to change anything on the "old" server as we are running a web-shop on it, and our income depends on it.....

Here is one
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=29104.msg121308#msg121308

I just searched for dbpassword.

I'd also suggest going to http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=29104.msg121308#msg121308 and watching the thread.  Charlie has made some new observations that looks like will enable us to possibly have a permanent fix to the backup and restore issue.

Hello All,

Thanks foor all the input and suggestions.
None of the above really worked, but my problem is solved anyway.

Since my 5.6 was upgraded to a 6.0, and running for quite some time, I didn't bother to run the little lines as suggested in the prvious answer.
In fact, I didn't know about it until I ran into problems.

The tape backup's of the "old" situation didn't work on a freshly installed V6.0

Here's how I got the new server working.

- Made a "backup to desktop" of the old situation.
- Installed V6.0 on a new machine.
- Restored it from desktop, server running fine now.
- Made a backup on tape.
- To be sure, made a fresh install again.
- Restored from tape, server running fine now.

As I was working on a live server that had to be copied, I didn't do the change as suggested here:

http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=29104.msg121308#msg121308

As I was afraid to do something irreversible.

May be I did it the "long way", but rather the long and safe way than loosing a database and online shop with 15.000 books and pictures.

Thanks again for your support.
