Hi All
Well after stuffing around and replacing NIC's and I found that the crossover cable was at fault

*Replaced and working!*
Also my IP configuration was also up the creek!!
For future reference for all Optus Satellite customers (with a Gilat Skyedge IP Modem) with a static IP of 10.xxx.xxx.xxx
Follow the steps
1. When installing the SME server type in the Static IP of the modem when the installer asks for the gateway this is the MODEM IP not the Gateway address on the Modem. (this is where I fell over)
2. Also set the master DNS to 61.88.88.88 on the SME Server.
3. On your Clients Mac or PC you will need to put the above DNS entry in. If not No Internet access for you!
But now I am very happy!!
