Marvell SATA driver

Hi all.

I've got a small request, I am not sure where to post and who to ask.
I follow the SME community for some time and tested various SME
versions, and would like to setup production server.
This is my first post here.

Recently I run into trouble installing SME7b8 onto a Supermicro Opteron server, the AS1020A-T.
http://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/system/1U/1020/AS-1020A-T.cfm
The problem is the Marvell Hercules 2 SATA chipset. There are binary modules from Supermicro, Adaptec and the mv_sata/mvSata driver.
ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/SATA/Adaptec_Marvell_H2/Linux/Redhat/
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.jsp?sess=no&language=English+US&cat=/Product/AAR-1420SA&filekey=1420sa_linux_drv_rpm_v5727.tar
http://www.keffective.com/mvsata/FC3/
But none for the 2.6.9-22.0.1.EL kernel the SME7.0b8+ is using!
I asked Supermicro for assistence, but no success.
To compile the mv_sata/mvSata or sata_mv driver is a bit of a chicken and
egg problem for me. Can't install without driver, can't compile without install.

There are workarounds, but they are a big pain... (success not guaranteed)
and I don't enjoy playing masochist just to get each beta installed...
Eventualy i would like to have a production server running SME7.0

Is it possible to include one of the GPL marvell drivers into the core SME7?
I guess mv_sata/mvSata is quite mature by now, and sata_mv is included
in the default 2.6.14 kernel.
It would help me a lot, and I am sure other folks as well.

Thank you.

I will try in a few days to install sme 7 beta 9 on very new hardware (motherboard socket 775, celeron D (compatible 32 too), 2*300Go sata raid 0, integrated radeon x300...)
Is there a possibility for sme to work on this hardware, specially with integrated raid ?
Will there be a 64 bits version of Sme ? How to load raid driver at Sme installation if i found some drivers... ?

Thanks in advance, i posted in french section but there is nobody :(

Hi there. The aar81xx.img its the original One for RHEL4.2/CentOS4.2
And... i have the mv_sata drivers complied for kernels 2.6.9-22.ELup, ELsmp, 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELup, smp too. I hope this helps u. Send me an email to slaspina@3gbyte.com.ar and ill reply this modules.

2.6.9-22EL_i586 (to install the first time)
2.6.9-22ELsmp_i686
2.6.9-22ELup_i686
--and the lastest update--
2.6.9-22.0.2ELsmp modules kernels.

Kick Install
Copy the i586 driver to a blank floppy.
Open terminal console (ctrl+F2) after the system try to find the HardDisks drivers on Install Procedure.

$mkdir /mnt/floppy
$mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
$cp /mnt/floppy/mv_sata.ko /tmp/
$umount /dev/fd0
$modprobe /tmp/mv_sata.ko
(if u do it well will apears the scsi HDs in the dmesg dialog - crtl+F4 or F3)

Ok,all its going well, u should back to Crtl+F1 and press "Add" in the Driver dialog, the HDs will be available to install ur system, after the packages been installed dont boot! or boot, but u need to load the i686 driver to boot ur system for first time...

if u dont boot, back to the funny console and copy:
2.6.9-22.ELsmp_i686 driver module to: /mnt/sysimage/lib/modules/2.6.9-22.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/scsi/
and ..(optional)
2.6.9-22.ELup_i686 to: /mnt/sysimage/lib/modules/2.6.9- 22.EL/kernel/drivers/scsi/

do the other stuff

$chroot /mnt/sysimage/
$echo "alias scsi_hostadapter mv_sata" >> /etc/modprobe.conf

(optional start)
$./sbin/depmod -ae -F /boot/System.map-2.6.9-22.EL 2.6.9-22.EL
$./sbin/mkinitrd -v -f /boot/initrd-2.6.9-22.EL.img 2.6.9-22.EL
(optional end)

$./sbin/depmod -ae -F /boot/System.map-2.6.9-22.ELsmp 2.6.9-22.ELsmp
$./sbin/mkinitrd -v -f /boot/initrd-2.6.9-22.ELsmp.img 2.6.9-22.ELsmp

$exit
$sync
$reboot
