I think I am going to go ahead and convert from Mandrake 10 to SME 7 for my domain server.  I have received some helpful info from the community here and I am ready.:-D   I'm installing a server at home this weekend and converting my work server in the next week or so.

One last question that I have is:  Can I run a wildfire server on SME?  I mean, I know I can, I have it running on my test box, but are there any security/stability concerns with running Wildfire on SME?  Wildfire is a great private IM server and very easy to setup.  http://www.jivesoftware.org/wildfire/

Thanks for any input.

I wouldn't be concerned about WildFire, it's an indipendant application, I would make sure where you put it is secure and with the right permissions and the program is set up as secure as can be... My concern is (I assuming) you using a pre release candidate for a production server at your work...

A lot may change between now and when the full blown here it is release comes out, and if it's drastic or something drastic is found out, you may be stuck with doing everything your planning on doing all over again.

JMO - but a pre release is not meant or made for production - testing yes - production - no.

I like the features that are being worked on in 7, and when it's out in a full release version, it will most likely take over mail / web site / proxy, but not until a full release is out, I have 80 +/- users, 3 buildings in two different states and an owner that hates it when he can't get his email.

That's just my "scary scenario" :pint:

This server is going to be exclusively used for windows network authentication (PDC).  For the time being, our email and website are hosted externally.  My concern is that if I set up the PDC using SME 6 (samba 2) and then try to upgrade to SME 7 (samba 3) when it hits final, it may not go smoothly and I  may have to redo everything I am getting ready to do anyway.

Aside from the PDC, I am looking at using it as a wildfire server (as previously mentioned.

I guess my ultimate question then is going to be; how easy will it be to upgrade a SME6 PDC to SME 7?  I am already going to have to remove each computer from the domain, rejoin and then copy profiles.  I would like to not have to do it again when SME7 hits final.
