Topic: starcraft, optus@home and e-smith???

im moving my cableconnection from windows box with software router, to e-smith. curentl i can only play starcraft on 1 computer because the way the port forwarding worx. is there a problem like this with e-smith, or is there a way to open port 6112 to any comp that requests it??????

also.
i get Optus@Home cable modem. any1 know if i ned to do any special configurations to e-smith so i can get it working???

You should not need to port forward at all for Starcraft...the build in masquerading will handle it.  There should also be no problem running multilple client machines behind the SME gateway --- but all bets are off if you are trying to run a game server.  That's another subject entirely, and is far more complicated.

Not needing to port forward is correct.  All Battle.net games run just fine behind SME.  However running multiple clients behind is a problem.  The problem arises from Battle.net using UDP packets and have to always have the same source/dest pair of ports.  The last person to connect to battle.net gets all the packets and kills the other persons game.

essg works out of the box with optus@home, no extra mods or packages are required. I have set a few of these up with no problem whatsoever with optus
