update from 5.6 to 7.0 pre release.
« on: January 23, 2006, 02:44:00 PM »
Hi,
I guess that there still many people using 5.6 vers. like me. I want to upgrade to sme 7.0 pl1. Is this possible? If is possible, some body know the best procedure to perform this keeping all the users settings, spamassasin black and white list etc?
I´m doing a "Backup to workstation" weekly. I can use this data with vers 7.0?

I will appreciate any ifo !

Thanks in advance

I know that unmodified version's  6.0/6.0.1/6.5RC1 are upgradable, so you might want to try and post any bug's to Bug Tracker here

Have you filled in a Bug Report over @ http://bugs.contribs.org ? Please don't wait to be told this way you help us to help you/others - Thanks!

You should be able to upgrade to 7.0pre1 from CDROM. You should also be able to do a fresh install, and then restore from your backup file. Note, however, that as far as I know nobody has *tested* a restore from 5.6.

Neither version 5.6 not 6.x has any spamassassin black or white list, so you must be using a contrib for that. You should ask the developer of your contrib whether he/she has done any testing of the contrib wrt upgrade to 7.0.

Your safest bet would be to remove the contrib and its datbase entries before attempting the upgrade.

Charly,

Thank you very much for your help. I am "reading" you for about 5 years
and you always are helping people.

I will tray the following:
1) Remove all the installed contribs: freeswan, clamav, spamassasin etc.
2) perform a backup to workstation
3) 7.0 fresh install

Could you tell me how to remove the database entries?
Is possible to use freeswan on 7.0?
Thank you again

You'd have to know what they are first. You could look in the contrib's documentation and/or ask the author. Once you know what they are, you could do:

config delete xxx

and/or

config delprop xxx yyy

to remove entry xxx or remove property yyy of entry xxx. (xxx might be spamassassin, for example).

It might also be OK to leave them in there. Any novel entries will be ignored by the standard software.

freeswan is dead. You should look at openswan instead. I'm sure that can be made to work with 7.0.
