We're planning to release 4.0 in February, but unfortunately we can't be more specific than that. As open-source software, we don't have complete control over the development schedule.

Glad to hear it! e-smith 4.0 is very exciting - there are many new features, but we've tried to keep the same clean design as 3.0/3.1. We're working to get it finished as soon as possible!
