LDAP and Horde
« on: January 28, 2006, 03:42:17 PM »
I used John Bennets script to install the Horde 3 applications on my SME6.1.01 server, and have been ploughing through them trying to design a groupware system for a client. Everything seems to work well and I'm convinced the system will do just about everything my client needs.

There is one problem for which I spent  quite a while on the Horde newsgroups looking for a solution with no luck. Then I realised it's almost certainly an SME problem. John's install makes two address books as standard: a personal book and a company book. The latter of the two is actually a view of the LDAP directory of the SME server itself and though it has a dialogue for adding new entries, these additions always fail with a message along the lines...

There was an error adding the new contact. Contact your system administrator for further help.Failed to add an object: [34] "Invalid DN syntax" DN: cn=joe soap, (attributes: [a:6:{s:2:"cn";s:8:"joe soap";s:4:"mail";s:27:"joe.soap@theformsonline.com";s:9:"homephone";
s:12:"01449 723106";s:17:"homepostaladdress";s:20:"The Oaks, oakington";s:3:"uid";s:51:"20060128143904.gtb2hnccfm0@ml350.theformsonline.com";
s:11:"objectclass";a:4:{i:0;s:3:"top";i:1;s:6:"person";i:2;
s:20:"organizationalPerson";i:3;s:13:"inetOrgPerson";}}]).Charset:UTF-8

I seem to remember that the LDAP service is locked down in SME and only ever reflects the registered users. SO I have two questions...

1. Can the LDAP book be unlocked and used with Horde for general shared contacts?

2. Is it wise to do so?

Ahh, the install does the same thing that previous sme installs did.  You have always had a personal and a company-wide address book.  Don't know about the ldap piece.
