SME in a hosted environment?

Hi All,
This is a bit odd since just a month ago I made this as a suggested direction for the distro....BUT, I need to research installing SME 7 into a colocated server environment and was wondering if anyone had any experiences with that (specifically with SME, not just general colo experience).

Basically, my little kitchen server is plugging away quite happily with my dozen or so small sites. Flawless uptime, rare slowdowns. The problem is, about a month ago three of my sites starting getting spikes of traffic, which has been increasing marginally every day this month. My ISP meanwhile has been dropping speed and packets (getting progressivly worse) so I've made the decision that I need a box in a proper facility.

I have grown so attached to SME that I am loath to walk away. But at the same token, I don't know if a lot of the features that protect SME would work in a hosted facility (this is not my opinion, just an open possibility).

For example:
Accessing server-manager from an external network directly, without VPN
    IMAP as well as IMAPS
Allowoveride enabled so ibays by default can use url_rewrite features common in blogs and cms's (via htaccess).

I think, at a minimum, SME would work quite happily with the above. Does anyone have any opinions or advice though? I really want to stay in the comfy confines of the contribs community. :)

Thanks All,

Geoffrey

By the way, if anyone would be interested in writing a contrib for something like this, I would be happy to pay ($$).

There is no real difference where your server is located. SSH will give you all the manual management in addition to standard server management tools.
If colocation facility has backup power and reliable Internet connection, uptime for over a year is quite common.
