Okay, this one will sound weird. But as a Newbie, I have no pride anyways, so here goes....

Has anyone updated (?) from SME 6.5RC to 6.01?

Can it be done?

Hi timj

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question.

I just saw your web link and saw that it is City of Lloydminster
Do you administer that site & is it running SME?

I don't thin 6.5RC is that different from 6.0.1, you probably would follow the usual practice, which is backup to desktop (provided it’s not larger that 2GB I think, or you would have to use dmay’s contrib.), and then install the new OS (or old in this case) and then restore.
Try it on a test machine, and see if it restores everything first would be the wise thing to do :hammer:

In response to CGETTY

We are currently using 6 SME servers in City Hall and in various buildings.

We use 1 SME server to host 2 websites and a database.
We use 1 SME server as a dedicaed gateway DHCP server.
We use SME servers in our outbuildings (museum, Water Treatment Plant, City Workyard, Recreation Centre) as gatways, firewalls and to interface with our wirelass LAN system.

We have been using these for years and have found them extremely easy to maintain. Can't wait for version 7 to be ready.

I have one other unit that will be set up as a mailserver when version 7 is out.

Thanks for the info. I goofed and used 6.5RC as a production unit to host our website and a databse server. Unfortunately it didn't have all the features. One being Port Opening. We need Port Opening to allow our guys to access a database over the internet. Can't find an RPM that will install this feature on 6.5RC.

So it looks like I may have to downgrade to 6.01 in order to do this. The database is fairly large and so are the 2 websites. It took a few hours to upload the info to the 6.5 box. So not looking forward to doing that again.

Hi Tim

I work for the city of Azusa In Calif.
I serve as an electrical test tech.

I work in the Electric department (wires, meters, poles...).
I'm trying to get up to speed on network stuff. I'm working
on 7 beta at home.

Doing a lot of electric substation remodelling & its all IT based.
I hope to incorporate SME server into some of what were doing.

Its cool to see you using SME @ your city site.

If you run across anything new & exciting regarding
IT, municipals & using open source software I would
like to hear from you.
