Topic: Port Forwarding Problem

I am running 7.0 pre1 and I have only a couple of ports that I want to forward.  Like 80, and 5900 and a couple of IP phone ports.  I have them entered into the port forwarding page and they appear fine, but they aren't being forwarded.  I have checked the bug list, nothing there.  Anything else I can check, change?

I'm sure they are.

The most common reason for people reporting port forwarding as broken are:

- they are trying to test from inside their LAN. This can't work. You can only test from outside.
- they do not have the default route set correctly on the machine which is the target of the port forwards.

It's still remotely possible that port forwarding is broken. If so, report it in the bug tracker.

Note that if you had reported it in the bug tracker, rather than posting here, then the next person in your footsteps would have found this thread in the bug tracker. The *only* place to report what you think is a problem is in the bug tracker.

I entered a bug report.  I am not sure what you mean by  "they do not have the default route set correctly on the machine which is the target of the port forwards."  I entered the Port to listen for, ip address of the PC I wanted that traffic to go to, which is a machine that has a static address.  That PC has a webserver on it that I can get to locally, outside the local network (at my home for instance, I have a static IP from my provider at the office) I get a time out error.  Do I need to do something more?  I have looked at the manual and found nothing more than the "Port Forwarding" that I just described.

Should I just give up and backtrack to 6?

What is the "default route" setting on the PC you are forwarding to?

There's a chance that your ISP is blocking traffic. If port forwarding wasn't set up, you'd expect to see the SME server's website.

That is the funny thing.  I read about the port 80 being listened for on the SME Server so I thought I would change it to 8080 and forward to 80 on the Lan side.  Nope would'nt work.  When I turn off the forwarding I do get the SME default page.

I run port forwarding to allow viewing of my webcams.

It will be your router blocking the ports. You have to set the router to port forward to your SME box and then forward from the SME box to the internal LAN.

Be aware that you ar breaking the security of the SME firewall by this action.
