Can't stay logged in to contribs. ugh
« on: February 19, 2006, 05:56:05 PM »
Well this has been going for ages but finally got to me!

I have set "Store my user name in a cookie for 1 year" to yes. But for some reason after a while (an hour maybe), I am no longer logged in and I have relog in.

I've tried setting it to NO, save, set it to YES and save it. I've tried removing the cookie as well and then doing the above.

Any other thoughts? I'm using IE6.

Thanks for suggestions.

Try Firefox instead of IE6.

I use Firefox and don't get logged out after any set period of time

yup. I should have seen that coming. Firefox remembers my username and password but it doesn't automatically log me in either.

For example, if I'm logged in to contribs via FF and then close the browser and then go back to contribs, FF has my values filled in at the top of the page but I have to hit log in again.

Perhaps I'm missing a switch somewhere as contribs is the only site I regularly visit that has this issue.

Just had a look at my contribs.org user profile and I cannot find anything in there which would help, although I don't have the 1 year cookie option selected, I do automatically log in on each visit.

Thanks for looking Dave.

Hopefully someone else has seen this before and sorted it.

Please raise a bug in the bug tracker - there's a category in there for the contribs.org web site. Thanks.

BTW: I moved this post to the General Discussion forum, and raised a bug to clarify where such posts should go these days:

Thanks Gordon. The front page was pretty clear about not using the general forum anymore (as per description "Please don't start new topics in this category"). This group was the closest I could find as "current". Thanks for submitting that bug report.

Hadn't occured to me that the web site had a category or even that it was a bug with the site. I had assumed it was more to do with my config than the site.

Cheers,

Hi

I had the same problem and found eventually that the answer was to enter the site without logging in, go to the forums link and login through the phpBB framework (ie ignore the login form on the homepage, but use the phpBB one instead). When you take this route, there is an option to automatically be logged in which works for me.

Hope this helps

Mike

Thanks and also to Greg Swallow who answered through Bugzilla.

This work around seems to be holding but I've been traveling a lot lately so haven't had much chance to play :-(
