Can I assume that any PC / Server in the same IP block e.g. 192.168.1.X is considered a trusted host? Or is that mail subject to spamassassin and other filters?

Much of what makes SME Server great (I think) is that the admin doesn't need to know these little  details - the decisions have been made by the developers, and it all "just works".  That said, if you are having problems and think some default configuration should be changed, feel free to submiit a bug report.

I agree, it uses the KISS principle in an elegant manor. I did ask the question for a reason but I'm not sure its a bug. I use SME in server mode for email and as a controller my main server on the LAN has several instances of vBulletin. I have notice since changing to SME that VB is lagging sending email. It's like there is a delay in allowing the SMTP connection. I have tested many settings and none have really helped so now I'm looking at SME.

SME settings:
SMTP proxy Enabled
Virus scanning Enabled
Spam filtering Enabled
Executable content blocking Enabled  

I also have DNSBL and RBSBL Enabled however the mail delay was evident prior to turning on those settings.


Its possible one of these settings is cauing the problem.

The headers of the email that vBulletin sends should tell you if it has been through spamassassin.
