Do you have link lights on the ethernets port connecting your router and the server?
If not this may suggest that you need a crossover cable, although I doubt it.
Are you sure the cables you are using are OK.

Yes the light are on, and the cables are good, since I've been using them for my network prior to plugging them into the sme server/gateway,
I'm sure the cables are working.

I actually was able to get the SME to servup IP's on the local network, but not when plugged into the router's uplink port, only when plugged into a local network port on the router
I wonder if my router is blocking the DHCP server in the SME box
I don't think it would but I guess it's possible
The main thing though before I go further is to confirm that I am suppose to plug the router uplink port into the etho(internal) port on the SME server, and then etho1(external) out to the cable modem
And to be sure that I don't need any crossover cables for this?
