Hi!
I'm searching a list which shows what hardware is supported by SME7 and what not.
At the localsearch and at google i didn't found a useable answer.
Well, SME7 is based on CentOS and I searched for a list, too, but without success.
Now I'm here, and asking for a list ;)
My attention is specialy turned to raid controllers and raid hdd's.

Thank you for help

You will not find a list of supported hardware here, as you have already stated SME7 is based on CentOS4.2.  Any hardware supported by CentOS will also work with SME7.

If you have specific hardware and you want to know if other users have got it working search / ask on here and in the CentOS forums.

I use a lot of s/h older Compaq servers with no probs tho I have yet to load SME on a brand spanking new one.

Looks like the SmartRAID SCSI controllers are good to go.

It has been reported over the last coupla years that success has been had with a varirty of Adaptec & 3ware controllers.

hi!
well, i searched in my favorite (online-) shops for 3ware, but without any result.
all my shops offer controllers from "Promise".
Does anybody knows something about these controllers and their compatibility?!

Don't. Or buy a well supported card which has a proper RAID BIOS which hides the disks and presents a single disk to Linux.

Linux software RAID is fast and robust. Cheap "fakeraid" cards aren't. Good "hardware" RAID cards are fine, but avoid anything which requires a driver.

See the link in my previous posting and then search the web. There are quite a few to chose from and quite a few to avoid. I have used Adaptec SATA RAID cards and they worked out of the box. You configure the RAID set via the Adaptec BIOS and then install as if you only had one disk.

In my opinion the critical question is "Do I need a driver disk to boot/install?" If the answer is yes, I would avoid the card.

Note that some (and Adaptec is one) have drivers which allow additional monitoring. There's nothing wrong with that. The critical part is you don't need one to boot and install and the OS doesn't see how many physical disks you have.
