Backup to Desktop too big
« on: March 18, 2006, 12:18:44 AM »
My backup to desktop has exceeded the 3.99 gig limit.  I need to perform a backup so I can restore to my new 7.0 server.  Unfortunately, my new 7.0 server has my tape drive.  Any recomendations on how to perform this.

This has been answered so many times, did you bother to search (try backup or backup2ws).

You can use the backup2ws contrib or as it is now called backup2 contrib.
There are also other "flavours" of this that support backup to local drives & USB.
Check dmay contrib folders.

searching backup netted me a Lycoris Road map and version 7.0 beta in the 'news' hits, and nothign returned for Forum.  Either I am horrible and picking keywords, or the forum search isnt the best.  Thank you for your help.

Restore to 7.0
« Reply #3 on: March 20, 2006, 06:38:24 AM »
So if I use backup2 to backup my 6.5 SME install, I can then restore to a 7.0 install?  Sorry but I havent upgraded in over a year and I dont want it to blow up on me.  Is there a best practices document for upgrading to 7.0?

I just found lots of results !

I suggest you try again using the Search site box at the top right corner of this page, type in the word backup or the word backup2ws.
When the results are displayed you may need to scroll down the page to see the Forum results of which there are lots, make sure you click on the Show all results link, and make sure you go back far enough too.

To upgrade via a backup in your situation, you would probably be best upgrading your 6.x box to 7 and sort out any problems with incompatible add on contribs or custom templates.
Then create a good & tested backup ie do a test restore on another machine.
Then build the new sme7 machine and restore from backup.
You will have to install the new backup2ws or backup2 contrib before doing the restore though.
