I have a new problem :I added  some network printers on sme server, but the clients WinXp logged in,  can't see the printers .

Can someone help me please ?

I quiclky tried and experienced the same. See the bugtracker as I reported it there as bug 1167. If this solves your problem please leave an entry in this bug report as well.

You can solve it like this as it seems that samba is not restarted after configuring a printer:

Log in on your server and issue the following command:

Code: [Select]

/etc/rc1.d/K35smb restart

It does! Don't cd to the directory but use the line exactly as I posted it...

Just reread the whole thread and discovered that you are trying to install a network printer... are you sure that this is correct?

Printers attached to the lpt/usb ports of your SMEServer should be installed as local printers and can then be accessed from windows as a shared printer on your server.

Network printers generally have a hostname or ip number to which every PC (also the server) can make a connection to print, this printer functions as a printer for the specified system. So to have a network printer (with its own hostname or ip) you should look on the hostname or ip-number for this printer and not look at the server to configure it for your workstations.

I have font the solution:
the problem, I open, is a stupid bug.
The printers names was to much long, so I have delete and reinstalled all printers with short names and now all is working.

Yes you can store printer drivers on the server....

• Open the Printers and Faxes folder on your server
• Right click on the printer and click connect. it will prompt you with an error message: "The "" printer driver is not installed on this computer. Some printer properties will not be accessible unless you install the printer driver. Do you want to install the driver now?
• click Yes.
• Now select the driver like you would normally do.

If you want to install additional drivers for other OS versions:

• Right click the printer
• Choose properties
• Choose the Sharing tab
• Click the button Additional Drivers
• Select the OS version you would like to install
• Click OK, you will be prompted for the lcoation of the drivers for every OS version

Please report your problem via the bug tracker. If there is an effective limit on printer names, then that limit should be enforced by the server manager.
