Topic: Having problem installing group-office on SME 7.0RC1

I am trying to install group-office from www.group-office.org on SME 7.0RC1.  I installed phpmyadmin and used it to create a new database named groupoffice, added a new user in mysql named grpoffice with password office.  The server's ip address is 192.168.1.6.  When I run 192.168.1.6/ibayname/install/install.php I do ok until I get to the page where I am suppost to connect with the database I just created.  I used the following to try and login to mysql:

host          192.168.1.6
database   groupoffice
username  grpoffice
password   office

I get the message "Failed to connect to database"  Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?  Anyone else installed this program on this version of SME server?

In hostname try using localhost instead of the ip address

That worked!  Now I'm stumped at another page.  I did what it said to do but I get an error message (at the top of the text below).  This is the text on that page:

The path you entered is not writable.
Please correct this and try again.

 Group-Office needs a place to store user data. Create a writable path for this purpose now and enter it in the box below.
The path should be have 0777 permissions or should be owned by the webserver user. You probably need to be root to do the last.
Also enter a maximum number of bytes to upload and a valid octal value for the file permissions.

$ su
$ mkdir /home/groupoffice
$ chown apache:apache /home/groupoffice


 Group-Office needs a place to store that is available through a webbrowser so please provide the URL to access this path too.

$ su
$ mkdir /home/e-smith/files/ibays/groupoffice/html/local/
$ chown apache:apache /home/e-smith/files/ibays/groupoffice/html/local/

 
Group-Office needs a place to store temporarily data such as session data or file uploads. Create a writable path for this purpose now and enter it in the box below.
The /tmp directory is a good option.

I got this from the forum:

The path must be owned by the web-user. At debian it is user: www-data and group: www-data. Others I don't know.

I have the same problem as you after the install.

can anybody tell me what the webuser is at SME?

I had the same problem with the permissions page, i just bypassed it and it kind of works... chmod 777 and tried changing to chown every user to no avail!

Still cant write to those directories!
Looks like it could work with the sme ldap?

I did a fresh install of Group-Office in a new ibay called 'office'. For the user data files I use the 'files directory' in the same ibay. Seems to work. I just uploaded a file.
