SME server DynDNS & web interface access
« on: March 29, 2006, 05:18:33 PM »
Hey everyone

I've registered a dyndns account and cannot get my server to dynamically renew the IP address.

I've tried username & username@dyndns.org with the same password during setup but no success. If someone could give me their successful instructions it would be appreciated!

My other problem is how do I setup my server so that I can access the admin web interface over the net? I can access SSH but not HTTP.

Thanks!! :)

Is your server setup as server/gateway? If so ... can you access the from the lan side? If so ... the in the Server Manager under Remote Access you will need to set Secure Shell Settings > Secure shell access > Allow Public Access (entire internet).

You use your dyndns account name and password.

If you are connecting from known specific static IP's then you can add these to the server manager Remote Access Remote Management panel.

Alternatively establish a VPN connection (from anywhere) and then use
https://localserverIP/server-manager
...

I did this but it only enables SSH over the net... But I will try again.

Thanks!

Depends on your type of connection, either when you reconnect (if it has changed since disconnection) or whenever the IP changes on a permanent connection.

Did you set the initial (current) IP at the dyndns site ?

Yep, I did. It was kewl until they had a power outage. The PPPoE connection was restablished but the IP was not refreshed.
