Here are some tips and tricks from peachtree:
You must map a network drive for it to work and have a short path eg:
z:\peachw
\\servername\peachw will not work.
"Everyon must have administrative rights to the share."
Try this. Map the network drive on as client but use the "connect using a different user" option and use the server's admin user and password to see if it really is a permission problem.
Here is some info from the peachtree website. It was in PDF so I copied and pasted. It is a bit hard to read. Do you have a peachtree support login?

Title Installing Peachtree on a Network
Question:
How do I install Peachtree on a Network?
Answer:
The installation process depends on the type of network environment Peachtree will be running in,
either a traditional server with workstations or a Peer-to-Peer network.
Before you begin, verify that your hardware and software meets the system requirements for your
Peachtree product.
IMPORTANT: This document is intended to provide general information on setting up Peachtree in a
network environment. For more specific information on setting up Peachtree on your network,
Peachtree offers Complete Network Setup Guides for many specific networks. These guides provide
specific system requirements for Peachtree to run successfully on your network.
These documents can be found in the Peachtree Knowledge Center. You will need to set up a
Peachtree Passport (if you do not already have one) to access the Knowledge Center documents and
have a current Support Contract to access these particular documents.
A Peer-to-Peer Network Environment is a network that allows each connected computer to act as a
server and/or a workstation. Each computer can share its hard drive, printers, or other devices with all
other computers in the network. This makes each computer on the network equal to the other
computers, or a "peer”.
However, when sharing data (such as accounting information), designate only one computer as the
primary server for the data. In other words, you don't want the data on everyone's computer, only the
primary server (such as the administrator's computer).
Examples of peer-to-peer networks are Microsoft Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows
2000 and Windows XP networks.
A Client/Server Network Environment (such as Novell 5.x and above) is an environment that has a
traditional server acting as a central unit (the primary server) with several workstations connecting to
it. The server is where you store the data that will be shared by the workstations.
Peachtree Accounting can be operated on any network software that supports Microsoft Windows
and NetBios. However, there are certain considerations:
· Your data must reside on a networked drive (either on the server or the administrator's
machine for a peer-to-peer network).
· Peachtree’s program files must be installed on each workstation.
· Make sure the Peachtree users will have full access (administrative rights) to both the
network share and their workstation where you are installing Peachtree.
Example:
1. On your server - if you installed your Peachtree datapath to the default C:\Program
Files\Peachtree\Company.
You will need to share the folder C:\Program Files\Peachtree with full administrative
rights for all your Peachtree users. For more information on Sharing and Security please
consult your Network Administrator or reference one of the Network Setup Guides
mentioned above.

2. On your workstation – you will map a drive (P for example) to the C:\Program
Files\Peachtree on the server.
· Peachtree will run effectively only when you have stored your company data on ONE
computer in one specific directory so that the other computers on the network can access
it properly.
· Real-time posting is recommended for better performance and fewer conflicts.
· Peachtree will not operate in a Terminal Server environment.
Note: It is necessary when running in a Client/Server environment that the workstations be
running a supported version of the Windows operating system.
Where Do the Files Reside?
Peachtree divides all of its files into two main sets: PROGRAM files and DATA files.
Peachtree recommends that the PROGRAM files be installed on each individual machine.
DATA files must be shared in a networked environment. Data files include the status.dat file, the
options.dat file, the Peachtree-Maintained taxtable file, the Forms subdirectory, as well as all
company subdirectories.
Installations On Peer-To-Peer Networks
Although a Peer-to-Peer network does not have a “traditional” server, it will have an administrator's
machine that may be designated as the main or central computer on the network (typically the
computer with the highest amount of RAM and hard drive disk space). In this environment, the
program and company data files should be installed on this machine first. The program files will then
be installed on each WORKSTATION. Before beginning these steps, be sure the location on the
server that the data files will be installed to have been fully shared with Administrative rights, and that
the Workstations have been properly mapped to this share.
1 Insert the Peachtree program CD into the CD-ROM on your main or administrator’s computer.
The Autorun menu should appear automatically. If necessary, follow the instructions for installing
on a Peer-to-Peer Network in the Getting Started Guide that came with your product.
2 Select the NETWORK installation option.
3 Peer-to-peer networks allow you to share the entire hard drive or only a particular directory; in this
case you must share at least the root of PEACHW for versions 2003 and Peachtree for 2004 and
higher (example: c:\Program Files\Peachtree where Peachtree is fully shared). Before you install
Peachtree on a WORKSTATION, you should know if you are sharing the whole drive or just the
root of PEACHW or Peachtree.
After you have successfully installed Peachtree on the administrator’s (main) computer, you will
need to install Peachtree on each WORKSTATION.
4 Go to one of the workstations (not the SERVER) and insert the Peachtree program CD in the CDROM
drive, the autorun menu should appear. If necessary, follow the instructions in the Getting
Started Guide that came with your product.
5 When the installation screen displays, select the NETWORK button. Selecting this button will tell
Peachtree to install the data files in one directory and the program files in another directory.
6 For the Program Path location type C:\Program Files\Peachtree (C:\PEACHW for version
2003) so that the program files will be installed on your workstation. Peachtree recommends that
you specify the default directory and path C:\Program Files\Peachtree, to specify this
workstation's hard drive.
7 For the Data Path location type P:\Company (P:\PEACHW for version 2003) (substituting P for
the appropriate Server drive). Make certain that you have selected the proper network drive. If
you are not sure of the network path, you can click the Browse button to select the drive letter and
directory where you want to place your Peachtree Accounting data files. Select the Next button
on the bottom right of the window.

Note: The DATAPATH= line should always be pointing to the drive and directory that contains
your company data directory (example: P:\Company.) The company directory itself should NOT
be included in the path (example: P:\Company\BCS.) For best results, we recommend making
this path as short as possible.
8 Clear the check boxes besides the components that you do not want to install. When you have
made your selections, click the Next button on the left side of the window to continue.
9 The summary screen will display. Check the selections you have made. If you would like to
make any changes, select the Back button. Select the Install button to confirm installation of the
displayed components and the network path locations. The installation will complete.
10 Go to the next workstation. Repeat these steps beginning with Step 4 to continue installing on
each workstation.
Installation on Client/Server Networks with a Dedicated Server
You should install the program files on each WORKSTATION and the data files on the SERVER.
Before beginning these steps, be sure the location on the server that the data files will be installed to
have been fully shared with Administrative rights, and that the Workstations have been properly
mapped to this share.

Peachtree to install the data files in one directory and the program files in another.
3 For the Program Path location type C:\Program Files\Peachtree (C:\PEACHW for version
2003) so that the program files will be installed on your workstation. Peachtree recommends that
you specify the default directory and path as C:\Program Files\Peachtree, to specify this
workstation's hard drive.
4 For the Data Path location type P:\Company (P:\PEACHW for version 2003) (substituting P for
the appropriate Server drive). Make certain that you have selected the proper network drive. If
you are not sure of the network path, you can click the Browse button to select the drive letter
and directory where you want to place your Peachtree Accounting data files. Select the Next
button on the bottom right of the window.

6 The summary screen will display. Check the selections you have made. If you would like to
make any changes, select the Back button. Select the Install button to confirm installation of the
displayed components and the network path locations. The installation will complete.
7 Go to the next workstation. Repeat these steps beginning with Step 1 to continue installing on
each workstation.
Making changes to the directories that Peachtree is installed to:
If you should need to change the location of your Program or Data files it is recommended that you
uninstall Peachtree and refer to the appropriate sections above for instructions on installation or refer
to your products’ Getting Started Guide.
