I downloaded 7.0rc1 iso. No problem. I ran the md5sum check. No problem. I burned an install disk. No problem. I started the install on a new machine and ran the "Test the install CD". No problem. I started the install, got 36% through and now get numerous error messages that packages won't load because they are missing from the CD or are corrupt. The only option is "OK", which obviously doesn't help much.

So what's the point of the md5sum and the Install CD test?

Because now you can do a RAM test and/or swap out optical drives to see if you have bad hardware.

So what's the point of the md5sum and the Install CD test?

I had problems like that using a rewritable CD, tried it with a normal CD-R and eveything went OK, are you perhaps using a rewritable CD?
