Performance issues for remote IMAPS users
« on: April 05, 2006, 04:35:02 AM »
Hi,

I am managing a site running 7.0rc1 on a Xenon 2.8 with 2GHz ram, and SCSI drives, static IP ADSL 1500/256.  There are 20 local users, and 3 remote users.  All PCs run XP Pro SP2 and Office 2003.

Local performance seems okay.  However, remote users aren't so happy.

Response is very slow, and Outlook freezes often.  I've increased the number of Ip instance per second to 2000, from 5 (introduced by SP2 as a security measure - was unlimited in SP1).  This seemed to improve things a bit, although still not great.

I suspect that the ADSL connection, at 1500/256, is inadequate - especially given the size and number of both attachements and CC lists.

Cheers

When you say complaining about the performance are they having problems receiving or sending.

You may want to look at playing with the MTU/MRU settings on the ADSL router. This has helped me in the past with clients who have had problems sending attachments via lookout.

If you Google adsl+mtu you will get pleny of hits on how to optimize your DSL connection.
