Topic: php with jpeg and gd

I'm trying to use the image functions of php on my e-smith machine. However, I can't get them to work. Specifically createimagefromjpeg() returns "call to undefined function". I've gd-1.8.4 installed and the php rpm I've installed is 4.0.6 and was compiled "--with-gd" according to phpinfo(). However, I guess there's supposed to "--with-jpeg" in the ./configure script as well?

First off, is this true? and second, if it is does anybody have a good binary for e-smith --with-jpeg? If not I guess I'll just bite the bullet and to a source install. If its come to this, could somebody give me a few pointers about ./configure scripts for e-smith? Any details I should be aware of?
