My server is setup in server only mode on 192.168.1.1 and i have a firewall on 192.168.1.254.  I opened up port 25 on the router to allow receiving of mail, however now i am open for relaying it appears!

Sent 62,000 messages in 5 hours is what the log says?

Is there a way i can stop smtp server from relaying while still receiving messages?

Thanks

SME7 by default is not open to relay.  You might want to check the clients on your lan for possible problems.

"I opened up port 25 on the router to allow receiving of mail"

Did you mean to say you forwarded port 25 to the server?

You can go here and check to see if you have an open relay:

You are so right on this one!  Taking over the network managment from another company who apparently disregarded buying anti-virus since 2002.  Now starts the fun part.

Thanks for the reply and the nice testing site link.

...and I have seen mcafee miss a lot of malware too. I have never had a virus or trojan get past Kaspersky or Node32.

We run bitdefender on one mail server and clamav on another. Kaspersky is installed on the users desktops.

One package may miss something new but the chances of a virus getting past two different antivirus programs is much lower.

That is true that is is harder to get a virus past multiple virus scans is lower

also, it is true that mcaffe USED to miss alot of malware, because they didnt classify them as "viruses"
however, now that they also focus on spyware and malware detection and removal with there virus scan, they have become much better :)

and they have always been beter than norton :pint:

We spend a lot of time cleaning up pc's for customers for this exact reason. (she'll be right, the virii won't get us)
When we were running 6.01 it would block mail from sending from any infected machines we put on the workshops vlan. (This may have been from an added contrib, as it had quite a few on it).
A clean install of 7rc1 doesn't do this.
Was this a contrib the box may have had on it?
