Topic: no internet access

Hi I have installed 7 beta 3 on the network. can vPN into server and can ping external ip addresses from server. I can remote desktop to win xp machine. I can ping the server froom the windows machine but I can't ping an external IP (apple.com for instance). Hence I can not access the internet or email from the windows network.
SME is setup as server gateway and wins server.

Can  anyone help

For starters I would download and install the latest ver SME7 RC1 and then ask for help if you still need it ... you won't get much help on a version that old.

Just for curiosity havr you got the 2 nics setup properly ... is the SME server the gateway or do you have a diff device between the SME box and the internet ... you have not got enough info for ppl to work with.

Always give a lot of info as in the setup eg:

modem <---> SME server <---> router<---> PC's etc

Also is modem in bridge mode or are you using it as a router etc.

Thanks Tib for your help. I am trying to fix the problem remotely and have no direct access to server.

ADSL modem setup in bridge mode between internet and SME. Two nics setup SIS 900 external VT6105 local. Straight Cat 5 cable between ADSL Router and SME. Setup is Server Gateway Dedicated - PPoE to Bigpond ADSL
Is there any way I can setup RC1 remotely.

OK ... so this server was working then the internet dropped?

Do you have any other contribs loaded on ... or is it stock?

to update the server try updateing it with ... Yum update ... have a look here first:

IMPORTANT: Pre-upgrade step for 7.0pre1 and 7.0beta releases

Before upgrading to 7.0 from any of the 7.0 test releases, you
must run the following command:

kudzu -q

If you do not do this _prior_ to the upgrade, your system may
not boot. If this happens, please see the workaround here:

If you still have problems after the update you may want to take the problem to the bug tracker.

No Tib. The internet never worked. am updating to latest version now
