Hi Sits,

I can confirm that this machine (single processor configuration at least) runs SME7.0RC1 VERY well, with both cores of the Xeon recognised, and an SMP kernel running. The older SME6.x won't install because the hardware is too new to be recognised.

The only problem I have found so far is that (like SME6.x and apparently because of a Samba bug) ibay shares accessed via Samba shares can only receive files up to 2Gb in size. Over this limit a write error occurs. I know that scp works OK for larger files, and rsync worked on large files under SME6 so it should be OK here too I expect.

Dell supports and supplies RHEL4, so if you order the linux configuration at order time (without ordering RHEL itself), you still get some configuration tools and extra configuration documentation for RHEL4.

I hope this helps.

Please be sure to report that issue via the Bug Tracker, so that the issue can be either fixed or documented.

Hi Folks,

This is a correction to my comment above about SME7 and large file transfers via Samba.

I have just done some testing and found that Windows XP, MacOSX (Tiger/10.4 at least), and Linux can all successfully send and receive files over 4Gb in size to/from SME6.x and SME7.0RC1.

My earlier problem was traced to carelessly using SMB4K as my Samba mount front-end. Large-file-support is turned off by default, and needs to be explicitly enabled if files >2Gb are to be created succesfully on a mounted SMB share.

When mounting a samba share from the command line, add the 'lfs' parameter to enable large-file-support.

Sorry if this has caused anyone (else!) any inconvenience. Obviously no SME bug need be registered.

Ian.
