I'm attempting to perform a CD install of 7.0RC1 onto my old compaq proliant 800 dual pentium pro server. I've had 6.0.1 and numerous pre-release versions of 7.0 running successfully on the server, but I started to have some issues, and so I backed everything up and zeroed out my 2x300GB drives and decided to start over. I've got a 3ware raid, running raid1 (mirror).
I've attempted to install SME 7.0RC1 onto the system, with both drives of the raid1 mirror attached, and I've also attempted creating the mirror, then pulling one of the drives so the install goes onto that drive (on port 0 of the raid), then re-adding the other drive of the mirror to the array and rebuilding. In either case, I've had no luck. I bought another 300GB drive to make sure I wasn't running into a bad drive, still without any luck. I always end up with a "Grub loading stage1.5read error" after the 3ware bios loads and attempts to boot. I have checked the md5 sum and burned the install iso 2x to ensure that those are not related to my problems.
I really can't think of anything else to try, and will probably go back to running an earlier version of SME and trying to upgrade if I can't get past this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Note: I can get the install to work correctly and SME boots when only one disk is attached to the array (degraded raid1 mirror) during installation. Even then, after I got the server up and running, all configuration options set, and then tried rebuilding the array, it was unsuccessful. Upon booting I still get the Grub loading stage1.5 read error.
