I installed a modem driver INTEL 536ep for use with hylafax
works great but after rebooting the sme7rc1 server the modem
is gone and have to reinstall again

Hi where did you find the driver? I too have sme7 and an intel 536 that I want to use.

forget where I dowload the driver still have it but right now I am
3 weeks in china after come back home I can e-mail you the driver.

But on our server I replaced the modem by external type because
the intel driver sometimes gives a kernel panic

That's a good solution.

Kernel modules are kernel version specific. Whenever the kernel is upgraded to a new version you will always need to install new versions of all add-on kernel modules.
