Horde 7 with LDAP
« on: May 11, 2006, 12:04:51 AM »
Hi all,

I'm starting to get to grips with the wonderful world of LDAP!

I would now like to add Horde to the list of applications I link to my LDAP server.
According to the Horde site this can be accomplished quite easily but I can't figure out how to do it through SME.
Is there a contrib for setting up Horde? Or how do I configure Horde authentication through command line in SME?

I am using SME version 7 RC2 with the latest update of Horde installed.

Thanks
...

I think you just add your domain for your sme server

I in the LDAP section of your client application there should be a section for adding a host to lookup an LDAP etc.

I'm not sure if this is what your talking about, however, for example with Kontact I just go to konfigure knotact and add a LDAP host, which is the domain name of my sme server, then scan for host and it finds it automatically, then search all and it finds all the contacts in the sme / horde mail service.

I basically just added domain.com to my host list for my kontact manager and boom it worked, I did not actually have to mention Horde, I simply used the domain name.

I'm not exactly sure if this is what you were attempting to achieve but I hope it's helpful.

Thanks for the info Guys I will use this at a later date.

What I meant though, (I didn't explain myself clearly), is that I would like to have Horde authenticate users through LDAP on another server.

This is mentioned on the Horde site but the documentation on there is not that good. It describes manipulating the php files or using the admin interface on the Wiki page for existing LDAP. I'm just not sure how to do this in SME 7. Is it a question on getting SME to authenticate by LDAP and then Horde will use these settings?

I only wish to use this with IMP by the way.

Thanks again.

you could start here: http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=26121.0

Then search for: authentication & ldap

Thanks for your help, I have seen this link before but it is no help in this matter.

Entering the search you suggested simply takes you back to that post.

Looks like I'll have to stick with simple password authentication and forget about the LDAP with Horde.

Thanks anyway

The LDAP directory in SME7 is read-only - you only add/delete/change entries via the server manager User/Groups/Directory panels.

Sure, just create a shared address in webmail book that everyone has rights to.

If you are looking for a company wide address book that everyone can update, etc, then create a shared address book in webmail, grant everyone all permissions, then everyone will be able to see and use that address book.  The address book would only be accessible via webmail.

Code: [Select]
config setprop horde SharedAddressBooks enabled
signal-event email-update

Login to the system as admin (I recommend admin since that user account should never be deleted)
Address book, My Address Books, create, set permissions, logout, login, test.
