« on: May 11, 2006, 02:14:19 AM »
Hope someone can help.

Installed Egroupware on a new SME 7 rc2 it works well over the LAN, but when it comes to access it over the WAN I keep getting 403 error Permission denied access errors.
But I can access the Primary Ibay website fine, from a remote location.

The Ibay is configured with these settings
Information bay name egroupware
Description
Group   Everyone
User access via file sharing or user ftp   Write = group, Read = everyone
Public access via web or anonymous ftp   Entire Internet (no password required)
Execution of dynamic content (CGI, PHP, SSI)   enabled

Both port 80 and 443 are portforwarded to the SME server from the hardware Firewall

You should read the post again.
If you notice I said there is no web access to other Ibays as well, Just the Primary site. So it's not a contrib problem as such but is definitely a SME problem. I have setup a website on an Ibay called test, placed a index.htm file in there, and it is still saying Http: error 403 Forbidden.

I did read your post again and nowhere (except for your last post) did  you mention that you had problems with anything else but  egroupware.

As far as egroupware, it also requires port 22, here is a part of article from techrepublic:

"eGroupWare requires that ports 80 (HTTP), 443 (HTTPS), and 22 (SSH) be open. Therefore, you must leave these ports open.
The ports listed above are just to make the software run. If you plan on using your eGroupWare Server for e-mail, you'll also have to open ports 25 (SMTP), 465 (SMTPS), 110 (POP3), 993 (IMAPS), 143 (IMAP), and 995 (POP3 over SSL)."

As far as not being able to read index.html from your test ibay, I will do some more research and see what I can find.

I am sorry,
In my 2nd post I had "this works for the Primary Website ok, but no other."
I should have explained more there.

and I do have ports 80, 443 and 22 forwarded to the SME box.
havn't worried about the other ports as yet, because I can't access any ibay yet.

Hi all I'm considering installing egroup as well on my SME box

Will SME 7 handle this without any additional packages ?

Please advise
Thanks

And would you please advise your recommendation for the install package, is there a rpm, or just follow the egroup instructions ?

Please advise thanks all.

OK, solved my problems with the ibay websites not being seen from the WAN, my drastic solution was to do a complete clean install.
Must have had some permissions problem that i couldn't find with the IBAYS.

reinstalled eGroupWare, as per the Howto, with the exception of creating the DB first using Step 11, because the automated process from eGroupWare doesn’t work.

Now to try and setup LDAP services, and the Outlook synchronisation.

Hi all

I'm attempting to go thru the how to's for installing egroupware on the SME server, which I have setup as a gatway/server version 7.XX

According to the how to:
Note : Unzip this two files in the same egroupware folder… (do a merge  !)

My conclusions
They do not extract to the same egroupware folder, since each file extraction attempts to write a folder called egroupware, and will overwrite the other ?

Please clarify what is meant by the statement from the how to's as listed above:

What I did:
So correct me if I"m wrong, but am I suppose to extract one which creates a egroupware folder, then extract the other to a different location/folder.
Then take the resulting files from one location and copy the files from one folder into the other egroupware folder ???  so that all files created are in the same egroupware folder ???

Assuming I am correct regarding the above listed topic, I'm on step 4 which states:
With PuTTY, create a connection on port 22 (SSH) with user root :

Download of PuTTY :    http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty-0.58-installer.exe

From what I can tell PuTTy if for Windoze ?
What is PuTTy exactly and can another program work for this task ?

If I'm using linux do I even need this step ? also advise regarding port 22
as a gatway isn't this port already open ?

Please clarrify these topics

I'm trying to research this subject but am confused about this step. or if this applies to linx users as well.

Hi all

Here is where I"m at with egroupware install on SME 7

Several topics I need help with

I've completed steps 1-7 excluding steps 4 which I currently believe is windoze related, please correct me on this if I"m wrong?

Regarding Step 8:
Start the eGroupWare Install :
http://www.yourserver.com/egroupware/setup ou http://Server_IP/egroupware/setup
Please select your favourite language!

I'm not sure I understand step 8, but fyi I go to: www.mydomain.com/egroupware and I'm getting a login screen for this, but don't know what user and pass to use ?  So I changed the ibay to allow local(no password needed)

So I go to www.mydomain.com/egroupware
And I get the Egroupware page and can click on  test setup:
here is the results as shown in the screenshot below

http://www.flashbuilder.net/host/agent86/3.jpg

I don't understand what this step 8 means:
http://www.yourserver.com/egroupware/setup ou
http://Server_IP/egroupware/setup

I'm assuming that my bypassing this direction and simply using www.mydomain.com/egroupware is ok ? Need advise on this topic

Also regarding pearl install log, I have this installed, and hope that running from the root directory on the server is ok ? Please advise

As you can see several topics I'm confused about, but perhaps all is working. I have not moved foward with these warnings as I do not want to corrupt anything or have a failure during my configuration process.

Anyhow that is where I am at this point and advise is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Thanks

Agent86 wrote:

Incorrect: I extracted them into the same Ibay with np problems.

PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 and Unix platforms, It is used to access the llinux Environment over a network via a software client.
Yes you can use another Client program.
You don't need to use PuTTy if you are working on the SME direct.
Port 22 is not open by Default on SME.

I hope this has clarified it for you.

It is a Choice on which way you access the package
http://www.yourserver.com/egroupware/setup or http://Server_IP/egroupware/setup

As for Step 8
Goto Step 11 first and Create the Database this Step should have been moved in the HowTo, then proceed with Step 8.

Agent86 wrote :

That is fine.

After you have created the Database the rest is pretty straight forward, just read the directions carefully. I always read HowTo's first before going ahead with them. So I understand what needs to be done.

Yep, lots of question?

I really appreciate the help on this

So I will have to research how to open port 22 without PuTTy ?
Since I use ssh, but not sure how to open a port

I believe that is the only step I may need to complete before go to my setup

Please see my setup results: is this typical install for SME or do I need to figure out how to enable SQL or something ? and fix those warnings that apply to me.
http://www.flashbuilder.net/host/agent86/3.jpg

I'm not using Oracle so that will not apply to me, but what about Pearl, and pgsql and the other warnings listed on the screen shot above ?

Please advise

But I have a question on eGroupWare on SMEServer. I installed it following the directions in the Contribs site. Shouldn't I be able to get access to it via the Internet? However, when I try from the outside, I don't get anything but a message that says that the ibay hasn't been configured yet.

I don't know if it matters, but it's installed via an ibay, which I don't fully understand yet. But I can get to it via my local network just fine.

Should be able to access via the net
« Reply #22 on: June 30, 2006, 02:54:55 AM »
If you configured your egroupware into one of your ibays or created and ibay called egroupware then you should be able to access it via the net, however depends on how you are trying to access and where you put the egroupware etc. the index file which is typically located in the html folder of your ibay, weather it be a second ibay of your primary ibay. In most cases you get that message which is the default index.html found in your html folder of your ibay.
So what this means is the ibay your are accessing has no webpage or index.html file installed yet.

And further if you are simply accessing egroupware via your ip address then this would by default go to your primary ibay and only work if you have installed the egroupware in which we are speaking, into the primary ibay html folder
So I believe perhaps you could try http://ipaddress/egroupware
or http://ipaddress/egroupware

Also you may look to your ftp settings in SME server and/or your domain A records etc. to be sure that it's pointing correctly to your SME server etc.

but in anycase back to configuring the egroupware and thanks for the input.

I would love to get this installed correctly but not sure I'm understanding all the instruction exactly

I've not done the open of port 22 yet, so I'll get to that then try some more

Thanks for your input. As for the installation of eGW, it might seem a little confusing at first, but it's pretty easy to do. Really, extract both files into the same directory. They don't overwrite each other and, in fact, just supplement each other. When done, you should have a single directory called eGroupWare accessible from the network (Internet or internal). At that point, you can run the setup (www.yourdomain.com/egroupware/setup) via your browser and start the setup of the application.

If I can help anymore, let me know. I'm not sure what the status of your eGW install is now.

Take care...

The only reason that I can think of to use port 22 is to SSH into the server and utilize the command line to execute commands to get the directories and files extracted.

You don't have to have port 22 open for day-to-day use of eGroupWare, I don't believe.

If I'm incorrect, someone else please correct me.

I've extracted to desktop then tranfered to server ?

Is that ok ?

And so I would not need port 22 open ?

Thats what I'm concluding here?

If so then I'll have to review the install instructions again and I'll post where I'm at at this point

I do get a setup screen and also get those warning icons when testing the setup as listed in my post above

I'm assuming this is still ok ?

I am concerned about the pear warning, I did follow the instructions and when I attempt to do this again and and test as described in the install instuctions I get: pear is already installed or this file already installe or something to that effect I can't really remember, but I'm assuming that this messege is ok since I followed the instructions on this part exactly.

Please advise thanks

Ok, So I am at the setup screens where there is a login for the setup and the header, so I'm not sure what to do here, I can't login to the setup one only the header?

I may have done this before and simply forgot my user and pass, cause I'm getting a invalid login, but not really sure because it has been a while since I've moved back to this project dues to my misunderstanding of the warning messages I've recieved.

Also by the way I've selected in the header portions of the setup to use PHP-plus-restore I hope that is ok since it was recommended

I wish someone had a screen shot of the setup options that should be selected for these screens for SME setup only.

Anyhow please advise for proceeding from the setup screens

OK, so you'll need your admin ID and password to go into header config. That's first. After that, if I remember, the instructions pretty much give you what you need. Be careful with PHP plus restore. I just use PHP session management. PHP plus restore can cause problems with some installations. I'm not sure if SMEServer installation is one of them.

« Reply #30 on: July 02, 2006, 04:41:41 PM »
Thanks,

I've changed it back to just PHP and I believe the other settings looked as they should by default I'm guessing ?

I clicked continue (to finish setting up the header section) in which in that section I also setup the config-user,header-user,db and passwords set

I filled in those as I desire, then at the bottom I've selected write config, and I assume this is correct ? leaving all other sections as default.

Which brings me back to the setup page, which I then login to the (setup config) login.

At this point I can't get any further, when login to (setup config section) I get a page that says this:
http://www.foolishlys.com/cyberspace/1.jpg
http://www.foolishlys.com/cyberspace/2.jpg

I'm not sure what this is or why it's done this, but when trying to login or selecting to create database, it appears when using my db user and pass, or any other login name and pass it gets this message:
http://www.foolishlys.com/cyberspace/3.jpg
http://www.foolishlys.com/cyberspace/4.jpg

I'm assuming I'm suppose to use the db user and pass that was created when I setup the header login section ?

Perhaps I've not setup the selections correctly in the header and the  config login section ?

Please advise ?

Thanks

You don't do that on one line.

First.
Code: [Select]

Then
Code: [Select]
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Finally
Code: [Select]
