Hi

Can anyone tell me how to and if its possible to install webmin on SME Server 7. I have an RPM download of webmin but have no idea how to install it or where to copy it to on the server to install it. Any help greatly appreciated.

That's an FAQ. If you search here you'll find it's unworkable. You want webmin or the server-manager of SME server. It makes no sense to have both.

have you tried the SME server-manager ?! (http://yourserver/server-manager). Or is there a special reason you want to install webmin?!

Thanks for that. I thought webmin would help me out with a few teething problems I'm having with SME. I'm new to Linux and SME and I really like it but trying to install stuff like printer drivers from the command line etc is driving me mad. I have no idea where to copy stuff to or how to install them so any help / advice as always is greatly appreciated!!

You don't need to use the command line to intall printer drivers!

All basic day to day management of an SME server is carried out via Server-Manager using a web browser.

Have a read of the documention and you will find life so much easier, any problems once you've had a read we are here and read to help.

SMEserver has been designed to be simple to setup and use, but it is also very flexible once you start to understand how it all works.

Webmin vs. Server-Manager? Forget-It. Use the Server manager to do what it can and must.

The only reason to install Webmin on SME (Works great in SME 6 & 7, I admit guilty is if you need to administrate stuff like PostgreSQL for which there's no SME Panel. Webmin has a lot of usable plugins.

Don't try using Webmin to configure your SME - all your nice changes will be lost at reboot, some earlier.

I have the latest sme server running and webmin installed to manage apache webserver, postgresql ...

I am getting the following message on webmin:

The Apache server executable /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd does not exist. If you have Apache installed, adjust the module configuration to use the correct path.

When i install apache on webmin i still get the same result.. I cant seem to find the location for apache. Anyone know what i can do?

Also is it a problem to use sme and webmin together? I would like to use webmin as it is simple to administrate applications such as postgres...

Yep, it is! SME uses templating...

Hi

You can use Webmin for stuff like PostgreSQL Admin.

Let the SME Server Manager take care of Apache, Samba, DNS (No Bind!), DHCP, Firewalling, Hardware and stuff it can handle.

Use Webmin for anything "extra" like PostgreSQL, or even Stuff like MySQL, included and used in SME, but without much options (any?) in Server-Manager.

IMHO you should use phpPgAdmin (http://phppgadmin.sourceforge.net/)

phpPgAdmin doesn't need compilation, but if you want to keep track of what's installed on your system, there are:

    * Fedora Core users can install phpPgAdmin 4.1 using yum or pirut and the Fedora Extras repository, which is enabled by default
    * RHEL users can find an RPM package: version 4.1 available via HTTP or FTP
    * Debian packages in the stable (version 3.5.6), testing (version 3.5.6) and unstable (version 3.5.6) official branches.
