Topic: Asus P5VDC-MX motherboard

Has anyone had luck with using the P5VDC-MX motherboard?

I can't seem to get NIC's to be recognized. I have tried SME 7 vers rc1 & rc2. I am using IDE drives, and SATA off in the BIOS.

I tried adjusting Bios settings but it didn't change anything.

If I do an ifconfig, all I see is lo.

This motherboard has an onboard NIC, but I have also tried using 2 known good, known to work with SME NICs, and they aren't recognized either.

If you need more info, please ask.

hey had the same problem. seems the southbridge component screws the sme and it can't see the pci stuff. I installed SUSE 10.2 and could see all the NIC's (two for server /gateway).

Ubuntu has the same issue and wont see the pci stuff either.

So I installed vmware under SUSE and ran sme in that works fine.

Another post was suggesting that there may be a new release of SME with better support for the southbridge components, but didn't mention  time frame. ( may fix some of the SATA raid probs too).

Sorry I don't have  fix, just thought I'd let you know, your not alone on this one.

I think that problem is the VIA 8237A South Bridge. No drivers for that chipset on SME 7.1

Does anyone know how to fix it?

I've had the same experience. Tried to find a solution for two days, then decided that buying another Mobo was the best solution by far. Swap memory/processor/etc. and up and running in no-time. The P5VDC-MX is now punished by having to run XP.
