There is an option in the admin console (in SME7) to add a new hard drive into a mirror set.

I have a version 6 SME server that has a mirrored drive out of sync.  If I boot with the older drive it appears to work but with earlier data files. I don't know what caused it to go out of sync or if I should be happy I had a mirrored drive.

I've made a backup to workstation  with the newer data in case of problems but am not sure how to proceed from here. If I were to try updating to 7 with the newer drive could I then bring the other drive in? Any special method to format the old data drive so it will be added in and so I don't end up having the old data be the one that becomes the master.

Thanks. Ken

Update your backup.  Disconnect the out-of-date drive.  Update your SME Server to 7.0RC2, removing any customizations you might have made beforehand (there's a script to automate at least part of this, if you search). Disconnect the SME Server drive and reconnect the out-of-date drive.  Use the drive maker's utility disk (or something like the wonderful "Ultimate Boot CD") to completely wipe ("low level format", "write zeroes" or some such) the drive.  Then reconnect the SME drive making sure it's the one the BIOS will boot from, then add the wiped drive into the mirror configuration.  Voila!

Or just update your backup, use the Lazy Admin Tools to backup your config, then do a clean install on both drives.

k_graham,
The following link should help:
http://www.kieser.net/linux/raidhotadd.html

Make sure though that you have booted properly from the up to date disk, given you have been changing things around.

I had a drive get kicked out of the raid likely because the drive got too hot. It had no physical issues so added back in just fine. If there is a physical problem with your disk, the link above gives you a good suggestion to resolve it.

Another good link to speed up the RAID recovery is:
http://www.linuxhowtos.org/Tips%20and%20Tricks/raid1speedup.htm

Hope this helps.
