I have installed DNS2GO and I have just used standard installation, and added it so it starts up on boot.

I am getting annoyed though as it does not seem to be telling dns20 what my ip address is on a regular basis.
Anyway, apart from installing as per the How TO, I was wondering, if I setup with one of the recommended dns services eg dyndns will e-smith constantly tell them my ip, eg like every 5 minutes or will only tell them once I reboot.

Also, does anyone know how to remove DNS2GO, what files nead altering or deleting. All the instructions are on installing it, nothing on removing it.

I used DNS2GO for several months without any problems on a dial-up ISDN line, so my IP changed a couple times a day. Perhaps you really are not running the client? Several of the dynamic DNS providers will lock your account for updating the IP address when no change has taken place.

Hi.

I am using dyndns and with the same result as scott.
I have not tested for longer periods of time yet. But restarts tends to mess up things, which its rarther annoying.

I use DNS2Go on an ADSL link without any problem.

Ont thing is that the DNS2Go installation does not make the serive start automatically after a reboot.. therefore I ended-up adding the command line in the /etc/rc.local file so that it start each and every time...

Adding the command line to rc.local:-

/usr/local/bin/dns2go -r

Does not start the heartbeats, as I have checked the logs.

Now, I have added to rc.local:-

/usr/local/bin/./dns2go &

?


And the dns2go server starts in the background BUT you then get overlay over the e-smith server screen, but the hearbeats get sent BUT you also dont get a log. Someone froma Redhat NG sent me this trick, and I am hoping he can help clear the screen issue up as I have sent him a pic of it.

Have been trying most of last night, but it seems the only option is to put say a command line in rc.local:-

/usr/local/bin/./dns2go & 1>/dev/null


But, you still get the heartbeats showing over your e-smith config page when the server is up. Its bloady annoying unless of course you just use the e-smith manager and so then it does not matter.

I hope someone at e-smith is able to incorporate dns2go as there has been compliants ablout dyndns in that tht will dump you if you constantly update even your ip address has not changed.

I only have /usr/local/bin/dns2go as the line in my rc.local and have no problem. try www.acc.dns2go.com
