Afetr some initial problems (hadnt got complete iso image so the boot floppy wouldnt create) I installed e-smith.

All seemed to go ok, but when it tries to load up it gets the the e-smith title screen, and then either:
1. Computer Resets
2. Screen goes black with text E-Smith Loading - anywhere from 1 to 12 ...'s and then freezes, no hd access.
3. Screen goes black with text E-Smith Loading and the PC Speakers keeps beeping like a key on the keyboard is stuck down (which it isnt) nothing else happens.

Any ideas?

Sounds more like a hardware problem to me than an e-smith problem

Sorry couldn;t help more

I was thinking of the possibility of one or more of the components not being Linux compatible, could this be it - would it behave in this way.

This is my first time using any form of Linux.

Thanks,

Hi James,

I guess you will have to be more specific.
Start by listing what hardware you have, motherboard, cpu, mem etc.

Linux is in general more fussy about memory. Needs to be good, and all modules must be the same, and you must have plenty of it. I think less then 64meg won't play, and for serious work start thinking 256meg upwards.

For the rest, Linux runs on the most obsolete hardware you can imagine, (but not necessarily SME) so I would guess you do have hardware issues..

But like I say, simply saying it don't work without details, does not get you anywhere...

lets hear more!
