SME Server hang up - Asus Pundit
« on: May 30, 2006, 10:10:05 PM »
Hello to all,
I istalled SME Server 7.0 on a small Asus Pundit. I just started with Linux and choice SME for the simple management. Unfortunally, the Server sometimes hangup. I have to reset the PC.
How can I resolve this problem. Are they any log files that I can show on this Forum? What are the possible causes that the system stop to work ?
I don't have much experiences  with Linux and thanks in advance for any help
Otto

Does it stop working at the same time every time or after a certain action? Did you only install SME Server or did you install other stuff (contribs) as well?

Look at the "messages" log file in server manager/view log files.
You can also view all the other log files there too.
Look at  them for problem entries that may identify your issue.

Alternatively from the command prompt see
/var/log/messages
etc etc

I already answered that.
You even quoted my answer re which log file to read first !

Your question is too non specific to really give a more specific answer at this time.

Have you try to update the BIOS version first ????????????

All my SME server (about 10 in production) was powered with ASUS Motherboard and the only problem I get is with the Intel Speed Step Technilogy...

But when I build any server, the first step I do is the update of the BIOS to the last version...

Have a goos day,

The Asus Pundit (AE-3 I think?) for AMD CPUs hac an on-board NIC that is not comatible with SME (nor most any Linux).

Problems may only show up under network loading.

Install almost any other PCI NIC, 'su admin' and reconfigure to get the new NIC working.  then move on.
