Software Installer - Failure
« on: June 03, 2006, 01:42:32 AM »
I have a fresh install of 7RC2, after installation: I go into server-manager and choose software installer, it shows updates available.  I click on install available updates and it shows 17 available updates, I click on install selected updates.  The browser waits about 30-60 seconds and finally comes back to red lettering: Operation status report - An error occurred while updating the system.

I have reinstalled several times on different hardware with the same results.

I have looked through the forums and the bug reports but cannot find anything.

Thanks

Solved - Not Sure What is Happening

I am now able to update, I change the sources in the etc\yum.conf file from mirror.contribs.org to the directories located at http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/

It worked right away after I made this change, I am not sure where the problem existed...with my ISP, DNS or the contribs mirrors?

The issue I am now chasing...the yum.conf changed back to it's default settings, which it states would happen at the top of the file.

The "correct" place in sme server to make changes like that is in
/home/e-smith/db/yum_repositories
either using the db config command or editing the db file directly (very carefully of course).
Search here for many examples of the commands to use ie search on yum

I would suggest that there is a possible problem with the mirrors not working (??) and I'm sure the developers would appreciate you reporting your problem & workaround to the bugzilla bug tracker.

Software Installer - Failure

HI I am logging in remotely via https.

I choose Software Installer which reports ;

Updates Available
There are updates available for your system. These updates should be installed as soon as possible.

I then click the install updates button and am presented with a blank screen ? (Well, a mainly blank panel where no updates are listed)

Has anyone else seen this and if so what did you do to resolve it ?

I had exactly this problem (consistently), but only this last week or so; a couple of test installs I did a couple of weeks back (same version, on the same hardware etc) were fine.  I think it must be something about those particular updates.

I tried updating them one at a time and there was no problem - neither was there a problem installing them in blocks of similar updates (for example, all the Clam AV updates in one go) - I only have the problem when I try to install all available updates

I have seen something like this a few times, and reported it in the bugtracker. Unfortunately, I do not recall the outcome.  Chances are you are onto something, please fill a report in the Bugtracker, the Devs need to know about these sort of issues.  It will assist in improving the server.  If it is not a bug, there is no harm done.

If it does not work out of the box, please fill in a Bug Report @ Bugzilla (http://bugs.contribs.org)  - check: http://wiki.contribs.org/Bugzilla_Help .  Thanks.
