Thanks a lot.

Do you have a static or dynamic IP for your internet service ?

Assuming it's a dynamic IP, then did you enter your dyndns account details (user name & password) in the configure this server screens (login as admin first) ?

Is your server in gateway & server mode or just server mode ?
For dynamic dyndns updates to occur automatically by the sme server(with a dynamic IP) you need to be in gateway & server mode.

Do you have a router & have you configured your router to pass the required ports to your sme server ?
If in server only mode with a seperate firewall/router, then you need to use one of the dyndns updating clients on your server, seperately installed as it is not a standard part of sme server.

Hope that helps

I have a dynamic ip address from my isp and in server configuration I register in special section my username and password of dyndns service. The server is configured in gateway & server mode.

I don't know if my router is configured to pass the required ports to my sme server... How do I do it?  :-?

I don't installed dyndns updating clients, I thought it not neccessary wen I see in the server configuration the section called "dyndns"...
I have a section in my router for configure dyndns service. I suppose that if I activate from here I need to install the dyndns updating client software too, or not?

:-o I'm newbie in the server world...

Thanks.

If you have a router then typically people configure the sme server in server only mode, and let the router do the firewalling etc.
You would also need to configure your router to pass through all the ports required for various services, refer to your routers handbook.
In that case you WILL need to use one of the dns clients to update your records at dyndns.

Alternatively of course, you can use that feature in your router to update dyndns. In that case you do not use or configure the sme server to do that, and you do not need to install additional dns updating clients.

Now if you choose to configure your router/modem in bridged mode (which means all traffic & ports are passed straight through to the server), then configure your sme server in server & gateway mode and let sme do the firewalling stuff etc.
In this case the built in dyndns updater WILL work OK.

My best suggestion to you is to configure your router in bridged mode (assuming it supports that), and let sme server do all the work. It will be far easier for you to maintain in the long run.

That assumes you do not have a technical reason why you need to use a router eg for other computers on your LAN etc.

No, for security reasons you should not connect both NIC's to the router, this way your LAN and WAN site could both be accesible from the router. Connect the external NIC directly to your router and the internal NIC to your switch.

Changed latter external into internal NIC.

....and configure your sme as server only (not server & gateway), and forward required ports eg 80, 465, 993 etc from your router to the sme server.
