Failed to detect IDE cdrom with SATA chipset
« on: June 12, 2006, 10:36:40 PM »
I performed a fresh install of SME 7rc3 on a HP d530 computer with Intel 865 chipset but the installation could not be accomplished .
Message : could not find SME cdrom. Switching to another terminal I can read the message: ata_piix: probe of 0000:00:1f.2 failed with error -22
Have anyone faced the same situation?

I've seen similar problems on XP installs, usually resolved by tweaking CMOS and jumper settings ( inital boot finds CD but after formatting HD & rebooting, the CD is not detected)

I'd start by making sure the CD is set as MAster and on IDE 0 and is the primary boot device  , try forcing the BIOS to detect the CD drive so you see the type rather than "Automatic" on screen.

then look at your CMOS plug and play ( try both options for detecting P&P devices)
