No internet access
« on: June 24, 2006, 03:50:16 PM »
I installed 7.0rc1 (twice, to try and resolve the proib below.)

On SME:
The internet access test  passes
I can ping Yahoo.com etc

on my workstations:
I can ping my SME server
I have Server-manager access

I can not ping Yahoo.com
I can not connect to the internet with a browser.

All works well with a 6.5 server.

Any hints?  (I'll try rc3 next week, I am out of CD's)

Thanks
Pete

If you can ping from the server, then why not update to RC3 using YUM? then report back if you still have that problem.

I did a new install of 7rc3 and couldnt get web access but after the dns cache updated it all started working a treat!. Have you left it long enough or entered another dns server

Im not sure this is a bug as im sure it would have been up before. But you should try the new one mate as rc1 has been replaced 2 times now and im sure there were good reasons

It would be a rather surprising bug, so for the moment I prefer to assume I didn't do something or did something wrong.
Can some-one point me to the way to upgrade to RC3 using yum? (Searching this site for "upgrade" does not give any relevant answers.)

Thanks

Pete

logon to a console as root and simply type:

Code: [Select]
yum update

The only thing to be careful of is if you are updating from older SME7 versions (pre RC versions?) You may need to perform another step before you update or your machine may become non bootable...

What version are you updating?

Those symptoms describe exactly what you would see if the workstations were using some address other than the SME server as their default gateway. Did they obtain a DHCP lease from a different "server"?

No additional steps are required RC1 > RC3 as per this thread...

It now works, I guess the suggestion of jameswilson to allow some time for to DNS cache was the correct suggestion.
Upgrade was no problem. (Access prob resolved before upgrade.)
Thank for yr help.

Server Manager stopped working after 18hrs -after upgrade to rc3-, but I make that another thread.
