Ok,

I've tried to find info how to get this piece of c*ap to work or info whether it should work 100% or not. I've failed. My continuous posts in other thread weren't answered so I'm trying again. Sorry, If I'm making a mess, but I really don't believe that noone here knows the answer. I'm asking you guys for the last time: Does it work with SME 7.x? If it does, how?

got the same card over here, the only thing i found is

Realtek 8169 Ethernet is not recommended
The driver included in Centos 4.1 is out of date and has problems. See this bug listing for details, and please update the bug if you have a solution (ie. updated drivers):

so didn´t look good for systems with this NIC
guess we have to buy another card

If it works at all, it'll "just work". SME 7.0 does include the r8169 driver, and that driver will be chosen if your NIC has PCI IDs of 0x10ec  and 0x8169. Whether it works or not is something that you will need to determine.

Google for "realtek 8169 CentOS" and you will know as much as anyone here.

8139 cards cost about £2, wouldn't it be better to just buy a new card.. it's not like you're losing a wad of money that you spent on the device.

Grab youself a SIS900 card, they cost peanuts and I use em all the time on SME. (having said that I use 8139's frequently aswell and never have an issue!   )

A couple of things would help to clarify your problem for me:

a) are you installing a fresh SME 7 on a machine with the gigabit NIC? or are you trying to change an existing SME installation to use a new NIC?

b) What is the make/model of the gigabit NIC you are trying to use? (e.g., is it a Netgear GA311?)

As Charlie noted above, that uses the r8169 driver. That is the same chip as one of my cards (Netgear GA311). As you can see from this thread http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=32647.0 I was having trouble getting the new card (either the Intel PRO/1000 or the GA311) recognized.

It turns out *my* problem was the process for getting hardware changes recognized by SME. (Refer to bug #1696 for how I dealt with that.)

That may not be your issue -- it could be the D-Link card not identifying itself appropriately to get the right driver loaded. This post seems to indicate that your card may have some issues http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=32529.0.
