Upgrade from SME 5.6 to 7.0
« on: July 09, 2006, 12:32:43 PM »
I've seen a lot of posts saying that an upgrade from a standard 6.0.1 (without contribs) is fairly painless. Has anyone had any success upgrading from 5.6? Mine is only a very small system - 5 users, and all I really need to copy are the mail files.

With only five users I would be tempted to do a complete fresh install rather than upgrade, however if you choose to upgrade 5.6 > 7 here are a few pointers.

This may be one thing to be aware of:

Make sure you have a known good backup bedore the upgrade

If you do decide to setup a new box for SME7:

With only 5 users I would be temped to use an IMAP compatible email client to   copy the mail from the old server to new servers.  You may prefer to have a look at the command line tool here:

Thanks Dave.
I have a new box available so I'll give this a go.
