SMTP problem

Hope someone can help

I was using version SME 5.6 upgraded to version 6.0.1 with no problems used it for more than a year.
I upgraded to version  7.0 everything seems to work fine except when  sending e-mails.
I get the following error messages
“There was an error sending your message: unable to connect to smtp server localhost:25”

I made no change to my firewall settings

Thanks Dirmel

SME 7 includes an "SMTP Proxy" that is enabled by default. If your clients are using an off-site SMTP server, you'll need to go to "Proxy Settings" under "Security" and disable the SMTP Proxy:
Quote
The server's transparent SMTP proxy works to reduce virus traffic from infected client hosts by forcing all outgoing SMTP traffic through this server. If you wish to use an alternate SMTP server, and this server is your gateway to it, disable this proxy.

Thanks for the info.

I am not using an off-site SMTP server I am using SME 7 as my SMTP server.
The SME 6. Server I upgraded from had a antivirus package installed form “Pagefault.org “. I did not uninstalled the antivirus (New to Linux, was uncertain how to uninstall the software) Maybe this is the root off the problem.

Sum background info: I teach at a school in South Africa
I found SME to be the ideal solution to a schools e-mail needs. Used Microsoft’s Eexchange servers before SME will newer go back there.

Thanks to all

I'm really enjoying SME 7's improved spam rejection with "qpsmtpd" - most of our SPAM is now rejected outright, which is very nice!

I can't tell from your last post whether or not you've resolved your issue or still need help...

Here's a link to Greg Swallow's notes on removing smeplus.sh before upgrading from 6.01 to 7.0.

Even if this doesn't apply to you the information here can show you how to locate and remove any non-standard rpms that you may have loaded on your 6.01 system.
