Topic: Stability with nforce4 and x2

Hello all,

I install sme 7 on a nforce 4 motherboard with an AMD X2 cpu.
On huge lan activity system hang after internal clock speeded up.
Last log was

I found a bug on redhat web site

For the moment I have two possibility.
1) Boot with single cpu kernel that don't have the problem.
2) Install an other kernel, I try the last kernel for fedora core3, and it seems to solve the problem.

Is some one have had this problem?
How did you solve it ?

This is off topic, but how did you get SME7 to work with the nforce 4 disk controller? I tried to load SME 7RC2 on an nfoce 4 motherboard, and it did not like either the PATA or SATA drive controllers.

With the final release, there is no problem with the install procedure.
Motherboard is an Asus A8n-E(nforce4 Ultra).

The only one problem is with the cpu amd X2, otherwise no problem.

Hi yall,
concerning the nforce4 based boards, here is some additional input.
I also have an nforce4 based m/b, 64bit Sempron onboard NIC.

In order to get a successful install of SME7.xx two things were needed:
1) start the boot process with "sme nousb"
2) patience!

About number 2. The install took about 45 minutes to format the drives.
For comparison, the install on another 64bit box takes about 3-5 minutes to format.

The end result was a machine that was very fast except for the networking through the
onborad nforce4 NIC. Which was very slow
and would spit out a lot TX/RX errors.

The "fix" for the network is to try to use the close source Nvidia drivers for the NIC,
which I did not do on my SME7 test box.
However, for the record, using the closed source Nvidia driver with
the same box and CentOS4.3 installed did allow the network to
work as expected.

installation have been made in 5 min with hd format....
