Is fstab-sync needed or can it be disabled?

 I am using a second internal IDE hard drive for backups. What I did on non 7.0 sme was to add the drive in the fstab file and then using a script mount the drive to /mnt/backup to backup files then umount the drive when done.

 With this new fstab-sync I am unable to do this. I have been unable to find understandable directions on how to now setup an extra hard drive using fstab-sync.

HELP!!!!
