[SOLVED] Yum update on 7.0pre2 box--box is sort of hosed
« on: July 31, 2006, 09:47:20 PM »
OK, 1st off, I'm a long time user (4.1.2 days) but haven't done much but let the box run in the past months.
Today I decided to run yum update for the FIRST time.  Yah, yah, yah, I know, I should have been on top of things more.
Well, it failed.

After running through the checks it needed to download approx 169 megs worth of updates.  It started the updates then got to the kernal.  The system then halted with a Kernal panic.  I rebooted the box and ran a post-update and a post-reboot.  Now when running yum update it fails with some dependencies of openssh-clients and openssh-server.

Is there any way I can get yum to continue updating the box to get it all current?  I'm totally lost here.

Did you update from 4.1.2 to 7.0? if so then it's no surprise you have kernel panic, as usual please report all problems to bug tracker.

LoL!  No, as the subject says it's a 7.0Pre2 box (fresh install some months ago).  Is it a bug?  Or is it just bad luck?
Still doesn't answer my question, how do I get Yum to update those packages?  Can it be forced?
I'll report it in the bug tracker if it turns out to be one.

The place to ask that is in the bug tracker.

Have you tried "upgrading" with a 7.0 final CD?

That was my last option, but it wasn't required.

Thanks to Charlie, I was able force the uninstall of openssh, which was causing yum to fail, then reinstall it via yum.  I've now done all my updates and the box is running 7.0.

See http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1791 in the bug tracker.
