Upgrade from 6.5 to 7.0
« on: August 09, 2006, 12:12:05 PM »
Hi fOLKS

Newbie still here - getting better

I have a customer on 6.5, but would like to move to 7.0

Am i ok to just pop the CD in and let it upgrade ( will this keep my settings etc etc)

Or do i need to back up first and then a restore - what the best way for this, just use the backup and restore in server manager?

Many Thanks again

Chris

Has it been customised at all? or is it stock install? if the second then you should be ok to just upgrade from cd, if not then upgrade and report any problems to the bug tracker.

Its was used as a mail server orginally but now it just forwards the mail to another server - there are one or two users who use the vpn access on the their domain - but besides thats about it.

Thanks Byte

Just don't won't to lose everything - just a bit of a pain to re-set everything back up - should it remember everything - all the settings

You should ALWAYS do a backup before making any significant change to a server especially one as significant an OS upgrade, just in case something goes wrong.

CD upgrade should run OK though from stock standard 6.x servers.
